Sail Fleet Race – Nov 16 2019

America’s Boating Club-Sail Fleet/South Bay Family
Sailing Series/Ventura Sailing Club-November 16, 2019
Saturday, (7.6 nm.)
Saturday, November 16, 2019 was a fantastic day for sailing. It was just the typical
San Diego day. The wind was a constant 10-13 mph out of the northwest. The San
Diego South Bay was flat and there were NO other racers in the area. Sky was blue
with no clouds and the temperature was in the 70’s and 80’s. Not bad for a couple of
weeks before Thanksgiving.
There were only 5 boats at the starting line for the noon horn. Maybe the sparse
numbers was do to the “Baja Ha Ha” Race to Cabo San Lucas that started on
Monday, November 4. A number of our racers participated in this event, Steve
Brodbeck on Consigliare and Jay who sails on Sea Story. There may have been
other local sailors participating as well. The race committee had a discussion
whether their race would substitute for our race. Discussion is on going. ( Ha, Ha)
Our pursuit race started with Fast Sunday and The Bass Boat starting in the first
group. The Bass Boat is an Ensign 23 and is sailed well by Doug Bass, commander of
America’s Boating Club, San Diego. WELCOME Doug Bass and “The Bass Boat”
The next groups followed with Pyrxus (group 2), Bon Temps (group 3) and finally
Marilee (group 4).
Phyrxus slowly moved through the eight legs of the race course to the front and held
on to win first over the finish line honors. Corrected time honors go to Marilee with
13:44:30, followed by Phyrxus 13:46:15, Bon Temps 13:51:01, The Bass Boat
14:02:47 and Fast Sunday 14:38:10.
Congratulations all racers.
