Fellow SDSPS members,
The March SDSPS Sail fleet race in on Saturday, 10 March 2007. We’ll
be racing to the South Bay. The race often starts slow from FM 19 at
the east end of Harbor Island and heading west to the first mark R-20.
After rounding R-20 we run back, often just drifting, towards G-23 by
Seaport Village and on toward Coronado Bridge. As we near the bridge
the wind starts to pick up and we enjoy good lively sailing while
rounding R-26 and R-28 near the Navy boat yards. The larger boats
round R-26, R-28, R26 and R28 a second time before head back to the
finish line The smaller boats just sail to R-26 and back to the finish
line. It’s a long leg back up the bay and getting back under the
bridge and making our way back to FM 19 is often a challenge. Some
boats tack several times trying to get back under the bridge as the
wind is often right out of the west as you try to go under the bridge.
If you have a boat and need crew or if you don’t have a boat and would
like to crew please contact the co-chairs, Mike Sampsel at 619-421-3345
or me, Don Litzenberg, at 858-487-8491 no later than Thursday the 8th
for the for the March race.
The attached Word file is our March race course. Hope to see you on
the bay!
Don Litzenberg
